Language Studies Track (Ph.D. in ELT)

Language Studies track aims to provide students with a firm theoretical and analytical knowledge about language acquisition, language processing and production procedures, structures of languages, language competence and social, cognitive and cultural aspects of language.

Regardless of the entrance year of the program, it has been decided to implement the course statuses below for all students who will come to the graduation stage since the Fall semester of the 2022-2023 Academic Year.

*These courses (which are also required courses in the M.A in ELT program) are required in the PhD program if the student has not taken an equivalent course at a previous graduate program attended. Note that equivalence is subject to the approval of the ELT graduate programs coordinator. Newly admitted PhD students need to take ELT 506, ELT 554 and ELT 555 if they have not taken these courses before.

Notes:   

  1. Students are expected to select their PhD dissertation advisor by the end of their 2nd term (before they start their 3rd term) in the programme. To do this, please use the link (and the information) given below:

  2. On completion of the program courses, PhD students are required to sit their Written and Oral PhD Comprehensive Exams in either May or November (dates are announced annually) before they are allowed to start their dissertation work.
