We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Prof. Dr. Sevda Çalışkan, who was a faculty member of our Department from 1988 to 2003.

Prof. Dr. Sevda Çalışkan taught and influenced countless students, including many of the active faculty members of our Department today. She was an awe-inspiring professor, a dedicated, outstanding literary scholar, a principled intellectual, and a meticulous translator.

Our thoughts in this sad time are with her family, friends, colleagues, and students, who will sorely miss her impressive personality and inspiring guidance.

Prof. Dr. Nail Bezel taught, influenced and inspired countless students including many of the active faculty members of our Department today. In addition to being an outstanding professor and literary scholar, Prof. Bezel was a prolific poet, translator, and nature-lover.

In this online session on May 22nd, 2024 (19:00), Dear Professor Mike McCarthy will deliver a speech titled "Speaking and listening: two sides of the same coin", in which Professor McCarthy questions, using corpus evidence, the traditional separation of the speaking and listening skills in language teaching.

Tomoe Sato from Yokohama City University visited our department between February 26th and March 1st, 2024, within the scope of Erasmus+ staff mobility for teaching. She introduced online learning tools and demonstrated lesson examples using artificial intelligence in the classroom.
